I refer to yesterdays so-called 'demonstration' against the raising of student 'contributions' held in and around Trafalgar Square.
I have no doubt that there were a lot of students there, the bulk engaging in 'peaceful' protest, to which we are all entitled to indulge in from time to time. But you ca'nt help thinking that 'rent-a-mob' were there in force!!!
Now - i am no fan of the Police, per se, particularly the agressive, overbearing and belligerant thugs that seem to be increasingly attracted by the allure of power and control that they feel is such an important part of the job these days. However, if people are allowed to act in the manner so openly displayed yesterday then what hope is there for 'lawful assembly'? The powers that be will waste no time in demanding evermore draconian laws in which to inhibit civil rights to the tax-paying, law-abiding citizen IMHO.
At the end of the day the Police are there to do a job, it's a shit job but the thin Blue line (or not so thin these days), is a neccesary evil unfortunately and do not deserve or have to put up with these scumbags.

Ordinary, decent, working people in this country are under pressure, there is a lot of anger out there. Opinion of the Police and Politicians are very low, the latter probably at an all-time low. There is a lot of resentment with the current way the country is being run and the effects of the dire state of the economy are being felt everywhere and not just in the area of student funding.
People are fed up with this country being taken for a soft touch with both our economy and sovereign rights being handed out of our control like confetti - just ask anybody with a modicum of opinion and common sense, in the shops, in the pubs, anywhere. It's not surprising that people are angry - sometimes, just sometimes peaceful demonstration does not work, our leaders do not take any notice.
I do not condone the activities of above, i will make that clear.
The student funding issue is important and contributions of one sort or another will have to be made but not a situation of education for the rich at the expense of the poor. where the fuck is the work? More people work in retail than in manufacturing, where is the retail money going to come from if nobody is earning? Raising money from people who can least afford it is not the way. A talented, educated, motivated population is a neccessity, not a luxury. Iran has 4 million unemployed under-25's at degree level, do you want all them over here as asylum seekers?
There are ways to save money, lots of ways, i do'nt have a magic wand or all the ideas but some cuts have to be made and these are areas where i would start, unpalatable as it might seem...
1. Cut foreign aid, why are we giving money to our competitors? This is a throwback to the days when we had an Empire. Well we do'nt now and i for one will not apoligise for slavery and spices etc etc. Why do we give £300 million to India when they are engaged in a multi-million dollar deal with the Soviet Union to buy next-generation jet fighters?????????
2. Trim the military by all means but not front line. Those poor bastards need all the help they can get. Start with the procurement division and all the Piccadilly Commando's in fucking Whitehall.
3. Social security - obviously needs re-forming. I would be more than happy to work for any unemployment benefit but not at less than minimum wage as is being suggested. The minimum wage has now become the maximum wage and nobody should work for less in this country. Gang-masters ought to be gang-raped by the people they employ and see what it is like to get a good fucking and anybody employing illegal immigrants should be shot.
4. Immigration and everything associated with it should the most scrutinised. It is THE most talked-about single issue in this country, that and radical muslims. This all needs reforming and not just cost-cutting.
There would be enough savings in the above to fund Student Loans.
Sadly the 'riots' will probably only be remembered for the fact that Charles and Camilla got attacked. The downside is that his car needs a new paint-job, so does Camilla by the look of her, the upside is that he has seen what the real world can be like for once in his worthless existance! What price rule now Charles? Now that you've seen......mob rule.
